History

The Cheeks is a designer dog that is a crossbreed between Pekingese and Chihuahua. Known for its sturdy body, flat or round head and floppy or erect ears, they are an adorable pet. They have been recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club as well as Designer Dog Kennel Club as Cheeks. On the other hand International Designer Canine Registry as acknowledged it by the name of Pekachi.

Temperament & Personality

It is a loyal and family loving dog that loves to be around people. They mingle well with everybody, but children require supervision. First-time owners should do enough research about this breed before buying.

Care

Exercise

Cheeks have minimum activity requirements. Walking once a day with some playing sessions will be enough for them. Although they are small in size, they love being active. It is vital to teach them basic obedience and socialization skills to help them grow. This breed of dog suits well to apartment life but cannot withstand cold temperatures.

Grooming

The coat of the Cheeks depends on the parent it inherits from. Nevertheless, brush the skin daily as it sheds moderately. To protect the natural oils of the skin, bath it only when it gets dirty. Brush the teeth two times and clean the ears and eyes once a week. Clip the long nails only when they are long using the right tools or by a professional groomer.

Health Problems

Ailments which these dogs can inherit are hypoglycemia, patellar luxation, collapsed trachea, open fontanel, shivering, etc. Seek the health clearances before buying and also consider the atmosphere of the breeding center.

Training

The stubbornness of the pekingese chihuahua mix pets  makes it difficult to train. Only an experienced dog owner will be able to guide it properly. Consistency, patience, and positive methods are the key. Moreover, it is difficult to train them indoors. Teaching them obedience and socialization skills at an early age is necessary.

Feeding

Provide them with ¼-½ cups of dry dog food daily. Make sure the diet has adequate nutrients according to the dog’s requirements.
