History

Chi-Poo is a hybrid dog developed by crossing the Miniature or Toy Poodle and the Chihuahua in the year 1970. As they are trending recently, so not much history is known about them but their characteristic feature can be distinguished.

Temperament & Personality

Poodle and Chihuahua mix pets love to grab everyone’s attention and even tend to cuddle and sleep on its owner's lap. It is smart, intelligent, a little stubborn and suspicious of strangers. Suitable for an apartment if they have enough space for running and play. If brought up properly, they are comfortable with other pets and children, but close supervision should be maintained.

Exercise

Chihuahua poodle mix is a highly active one, so it requires loads of activity to be fit mentally and physically. Take them for daily walks if temperatures are moderate because they are not suitable for extreme conditions.

Grooming

Brush the hair frequently according to the length of the coat with a soft bristled brush. Bathe them 1-2 times in a month to avoid dirt from the skin, but too much of bathing can dry out the natural oil. Their fur is of the Poodle so it is necessary to trim an brush at intervals. Clean its teeth two-three times a week and remove their dried tears from the eyes with any blunt edged substance.

Health Problems

Chi-poo puppies are prone to skin dryness and inverted eyelid that might heal itself but sometimes require surgical intervention. Other issues it may have are patellar luxation, hip dysplasia, dilated cardiomyopathy, tracheal collapse and hydrocephalus.

Training

Since it is an intelligent dog breed like a Poodle, it tends to learn quickly and efficiently. Their love for pleasing their masters does not need much effort, but it will be preferable to train them on a reward basis. Proper socialization is necessary to avoid unnecessary barking and over-possessiveness from the visitors.

Feeding

Provide them with ¾ to 1½ cups of good quality dry dog food according to its size. They can be selective regarding food, so keep changing the food options. Moreover, healthy eating can keep them away from hypoglycemia.
