History

The Frenchie Pug, or Frug, in short, is a cross between the French Bulldog and the Pug. This breed is said to be originated in the early nineteenth century when massive Pug breeding programs took place in the United States of America. There is very little information available when they first appeared on this planet.

Temperament & Personality

The French Pug need all the attention of their owners and follow the family members wherever they go. They love to play with kids and possess a jovial nature, however, as they are small in size - adults should always supervise them. A Frug adjusts well with other dog and pets, though you should never leave it alone with a big dog. They are busy entertaining their masters all the times and have a terrific sense of humor. The Frugs carry the “curiosity genes” of its parents ( especially the Pug’s side ) and are attentive about their surroundings all the times. They are well-behaved with strangers, though needing proper training to work as guard dogs.

Exercise

The Frugs are moderately active and require frequent leisurely walks, but make sure not to engage them in physically demanding activities. Frug puppies are more energetic than their older counterparts, who love to take rest in apartments. However, plan some playful exercises for those older dogs also, or else they will feel sad and isolated.

Grooming

Brush your Frug’s short coat once a week and remove dead strands of hair. Bathe your dog whenever it needs to clean the dirt, or, you can even wipe its body with a wet piece of cloth. Clean and cut their nails, remove excessive wax from their ears, and keep their face-wrinkles as they act as barriers against infections.

Health Problems

The Frugs are considered as a healthy breed; though they might suffer from inherited diseases; such as – glaucoma, hip dysplasia, allergies, entropion, cataracts, patellar luxation, respiratory problems.

Training

Early exposure to obedience training will keep a tab on the stubborn nature ( thanks to its parents! ) of the english bulldog pug mix dogs. These are smart and brave dogs who carry the genes of their French Bulldog parents. Allow them to get familiar with different circumstances and various people, so that they can distinguish between threatening and non-threatening situations and perform watching duties. They are intelligent enough to entertain people and learn new tricks like walking in reverse.  Ask the Frug to come near you, and then slowly and pronounce “STAY,” if your Frug is good at responding to certain command set. Then started to walk backward and keep saying “BACK” numerous times. If the dog faces any trouble following your orders, push it gently with your body and shower your Frug with praises and pat your pet after the dog successfully follows your command – you can also give what it loves to eat.

Feeding

Frugs consume highest quality dry dog foods, those which contain whole and natural ingredients.  Feed your Frenchie Pug twice daily,  each meal measuring three quarters to one cup. Make sure not to overfeed your dog as this will make it obese.
