History
The Siberpoo emerged as the crossbreed between the Siberian Husky and the Poodle. Most of these dogs have a sturdy body of the Husky and the coat resembles that of the Poodle. The head area is filled with medium to long hair with a pair of floppy ears. The eye color can range from blue to black.
Temperament & Personality
These husky poodle mixes are energetic and playful dogs known to bang around in the house. Thus at times, it gets difficult to manage them. Siberpoos are not meant for people, who don’t have experience in handling dogs of medium size. These dogs will be a great companion to those with an adventurous strike. They are not recommended for families with small children or pets. They can be a good option for working dogs and can be used in farms.
Care
Exercise
They constantly need a job or activity, and if deprived can growl or bark randomly. So an excellent option will be to engage them with some soft toys in the house. The Siberpoo will enjoy a game of fetch or flyball or a playtime session with other dogs in the dog park. Siberpoos are known to be excellent swimmers and if given a chance, they will love to spend the whole day in the pool. They will appreciate a daily short walk or run in the park.
Grooming
Siberpoos need regular brushing as they are moderate to heavy shedders. If the dog has the coat of the Poodle, it will need regular brushing with once in a while visit to the professional groomer to clip the excess hair. If the dog gets the coat of the Siberian husky, then a weekly brush will satiate its grooming needs coupled with monthly bathing.
Frequent bathing can hamper the dog’s natural distribution of oil throughout its entire body. Clipping the nails twice or thrice a month will prevent the accumulation of dirt in the nails. To cut the risks of developing ear infections, the ears of the dog should be cleaned with a soft cloth every other day.
Health problems
Some major health issues like Hip dysplasia, Legg-calve-Perthes disease, and Gastric dilation-volvulus can affect the dog. Experts recommend an occasional diagnosis of Hypothyroidism, Epilepsy, Addison's disease, Cushing’s disease, and Patellar luxation to protect the dog. Occasional tests such as X-rays, MRI, CT Scan, Ultrasound, Urinalysis, ECG, Complete blood work, and Chemical analysis will prevent the dog from getting various diseases.
Training
These dogs will be an excellent subject for the trainer because of their intelligence and smartness. But they are known to get stubborn and headstrong at times which should be managed by firmness and patience by the trainer. Frequent food rewards and praises will accelerate the overall training process. Siberpoo puppies need early socialization and obedience training to create a well-behaved dog for the future.
Feeding
The owner should give the dog two to three cups of proper diet food on a daily basis.
