History

Treeing Cur developed in rural areas of the United States like other Cur breeds. The breeders wanted to concentrate on their performance rather than their looks and raised dogs which can be used for watching, hunting and guarding. Treeing Cur got recognition in UKC (United Kennel Club) in 1998.

Temperament & Personality

It is one of the most active and most robust treeing dogs. They are brave and use eyes, ears, nose remarkably while hunting. It remains silent or barks when it is at work. A part of its treeing abilities makes them an excellent family companion. Additionally, it has an eagerness to please its master. It mixes well with other pets in the family if raised together. They might become overprotective and aggressive if they don’t get a firm master or leader.

Care

Exercise

It is an energetic working dog and requires ample regular workouts. Long walks with jogs and sufficient playtime in a fenced yard will be adequate for the dog. They love playing and running. Hence games like Frisbee or other ball fetching games will be liked by the dog. Without proper exercises, the dog might develop odd behaviors.

Grooming

They are easy to maintain and short fur requires brushing once a week. It will remove the loose hair as well as the keep the coat healthy. Bath the dog when it is necessary, but remember excess bathing will wash out the essential oils from the coat and will make the coat dry. To remove excess hair, hemostats are ideal. Its droopy ears will retain moisture and wax, needing cleaning every week by an approved canine ear wash. This will prevent painful ear infection. Nails require trimming two to three times a week with a nail clipper. Teeth brushing twice or thrice a week will avert tartar collection and tooth decay.

Health Problems

These dogs suffer from few hereditary conditions wherein some might suffer from blindness, deafness, and albinism. Random veterinarian checkups and occasional tests will keep the dog healthy and fit.

Training

It is an intelligent dog and training them is very easy because they learn things very quickly.

Socialize them by taking them to parks or to a friend’s house to engage the dog in interaction. Encourage these dogs to react positively with other people. Always make sure they are immunized against fleas, ticks, and mites. Positive training methods like praises and treats will allow them to pick up tricks very quickly.

Feeding

Diet consisting of a balanced proportion of carbohydrate, minerals, vitamins, proteins and fat helps the dog to maintain good health.
