History

Ultimate Mastiff is a crossbreed between the Neapolitan Mastiff breeds and Dogue de Bordeaux. Not much is known about the history of this mix breed.

Temperament & Personality

Ultimate Mastiff is simple, sweet and loving with a caring and a loyal nature. Due to these traits, they become overprotective of their properties and owners. In spite of being an intelligent dog, they act stubborn or like a dullard because of the same quality. They bark as soon as they feel any imminent danger to warn their owners and can move swiftly, jump and run very fast. Among all the activities, the swing is their favorite. They are best suited for a house with a fenced yard as they do not wander, but their protectiveness and temper might cause trouble. Fresh and cold climates suit these dogs, but they don’t do well in humid weather conditions.

Care

Exercise

Ultimate Mastiffs are energetic and require a heavy workout schedule to stay in shape. They have a tendency to gain weight which makes exercising very crucial. However, due to very delicate bones and joints, heavy exercise is not advisable. Activity can include long walks twice a day and sufficient play time in a fenced yard or a dog’s park. Allow them to swim in a pond or the lake, and it will be appreciated by the dog. It is important not to get them accustomed to rough playing and wrestling as they can be dangerous when they fully grow.

Grooming

They shed moderately and require brushing twice a day to eradicate dirt, loose hair and distribute the oil properly. They have a short and silky coat which is easy to clean with a damp cloth to add shine on their fur. Bath them when they are smelly or extremely filthy. It is crucial to check their ears weekly to assure it does not have any redness or infections. Also, clean their ears with an ear cleanser and a cotton ball. It is very crucial to dry their ears after a swim. Nails will require regular checking and clipping to prevent overgrowth. Brushing their teeth every day will prevent tartar collection, tooth decay and keep up with the oral health.

Training

Meeting new people will cut down the chances of possessiveness. It can be done by taking the dog to public places or when friends or relatives come home, ask them to behave lovingly and hand over gifts to the dog.

Behavioral training will allow them to learn obedience and socialization. It will also let the dog learn basic etiquettes. When the dog is small, leash training should be started, otherwise, they can pull out the leash and run away. It responds quickly to positive training methods.

Feeding

These large dogs require high nutrient food to keep up with their energy level. Commercial dry dog food of high quality 4.5 to 6 cups will be sufficient for the dog. Feeding requires supervision as they tend to gain weight. Dividing their meals into two will keep their digestion on track.
